The Richland Hospital Foundation welcomes new director, Angie Coenen

Sep 21, 2022

Richland Center, WI – The Richland Hospital Foundation is pleased to announce that Angie Coenen has joined their team as the new director.

Angie, a native of Onalaska, Wisconsin, has extensive experience in event planning, project management, and fundraising. In 1999, fresh out of college after earning a broadcast journalism major and an accounting minor, she was approached to join the La Crosse Festivals Board, a non-profit group that gives proceeds back to the community, keeping only enough for operating expenses. This group is in charge of 45 different events, including Oktoberfest. Still a current member after serving as president in 2017, Angie enjoys giving back to the community and credits this experience with igniting her passion for event planning and fundraising.

From there, Angie worked as an event planner for UW-La Crosse’s Continuing Education Department, and when her husband, Paul, became the principal at Ithaca High School, they relocated to this area where she began work as a financial accountant for UW campuses.

Angie’s experiences made her a natural choice as the director of The Richland Hospital Foundation. Her short-term goals for this non-profit group include introducing the nine board members and herself to the community, getting to know and collaborate with community members and organizations, and setting up online donations. Long-term goals include sponsoring events such as an April “thank you” brunch, the annual golf fundraiser, a 5K run, among other ideas.

Giving back to the community is a guiding principle for Angie, who says, “We try and give back as much as we can.”

The Richland Hospital Foundation currently uses donations to fund area scholarships and provide equipment to the hospital and clinics. She also hopes to be a part of school programs for students who may be thinking about health care careers and has exciting plans for future community events.

In her spare time, you’ll find Angie and her husband raising, breeding, and training their five German Shorthaired Pointers at Hurricane Kennels on their farm. She is very passionate about this upland hunting dog breed and promoting ethical hunting practices. They travel with the dogs and take them hunting for pheasants, grouse, and ducks to places like North Dakota and Iowa. Angie also sits on the board for the North American Versatile Hunting Dog Association (NAVHDA), an international group that judges dogs throughout the country. NAVHDA has 100 chapters and 11,000 members. She is an elected board member and currently serves as secretary. Angie also feels privileged to be able to judge at these events.
