The Richland Hospital recognized for outstanding patient care
Richland Center, WI – The Richland Hospital was recognized with a 5-star rating for patient experience. The 5-star rating reported by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) is reflective of surveys patients completed after leaving the hospital. A 5-star ranking is the highest score possible. “We’re incredibly proud of our team and the quality of care that they provide to patients,” said CEO Bruce Roesler.
Patients were surveyed on numerous aspects of their care experience, including how attentive their nurses were, the cleanliness of facilities, and how well they understood what their plan of care would be after they left the hospital. “Our teams work closely with patients to make sure they leave our facility with a clear understanding of what to expect when they return home and how to continue caring for themselves after leaving the hospital,” said Director of Quality Resources Carolyn Anderson. The hospital also boasts a low readmission rate of 6%. The national average is over 14%.
“Readmission rates are important,” said Roesler, “in that they provide a measure for how complete a patient’s care was when they were hospitalized. Of course, sometimes there are uncontrollable circumstances that bring a patient back to the hospital within 30 days of discharge, but our staff does everything in their power to ensure that when a patient leaves, we’ve addressed all their care needs. “High patient experience scores and low readmission rates don’t just happen on their own,” said Anderson. “These are two areas of focus within our organization. We see these as crucial indicators of quality in health care.”
Both Roesler and Anderson were quick to credit the entire care team who continually work to empathically educate patients from admission through post- discharge follow-up. “We have an incredibly dedicated team,” said Roesler.
