1966 Expansion

Apr 19, 2024

This year, we’re recognizing milestones in the 100-year history of The Richland Hospital and Clinics.

The picture above shows one of the many faces of The Richland Hospital through the years. While we don’t know the exact date of when this photo was taken, we believe it depicts the exterior of the building after the seventh addition, which was completed in 1966.

The world was different in 1966. For a bit of context, Lyndon Johnson was president and The Beatles released their Revolver album during that year.

About this time, The Richland Hospital’s Hospital Happenings newsletter included a note from The Blue Cross Digest about a new program called Medicare.

A year later in 1967, a time clock was installed at the hospital. Here’s the breakdown of the roles of the 139 employees from that year:

RNs: 31
LPNs: 4
Aides, W. Clerks: 45
Housekeeping: 9
Maintenance: 7
Lab and X-ray: 4
Anesthetist: 2
Pharmacy: 1
Kitchen: 15
Laundry: 3
Physical Therapists: 2
Administration and Medical Records: 16
Annual payroll: $400,000.
