New general surgeon, Anna Gilbertson, MD, joins The Richland Hospital and Clinics team

Richland Center, WI – The Richland Hospital and Clinics (TRHC) is pleased to announce the addition of highly-experienced general surgeon, Dr. Anna Gilbertson. She brings almost 19 years of compassionate care and surgical practice to our community.

Dr. Gilbertson is a native of the area, growing up on a family farm in Clyde, across the river from Lone Rock, where she first learned to work hard and be responsible. Because Dr. Gilbertson enjoyed farm life, she started college in the pre-veterinarian program but decided to pursue a medical degree from the Medical College of Wisconsin in Milwaukee, where she found great enjoyment and reward in general surgery. Dr. Gilbertson then went to Michigan State for residency and has since been practicing in Antigo, Wisconsin, and most recently in Shawano, Wisconsin.

After almost two decades in general surgery, Dr. Gilbertson still enjoys being able to use surgery to positively intervene in people’s lives and sees this as a privilege. She can provide a broad range of general surgery, such as:

  • Appendectomy
  • Varicose veins
  • Gall bladder
  • Laparoscopic
  • Endoscopy
  • Colon surgery
  • Colonoscopy
  • Hernia repair
  • Vasectomy
  • Anti-reflux
  • Hemorrhoids
  • Skin cancer
  • Thyroid
  • Wound repair

Providing a service that helps people, and for which there is a great need, has brought joy and reward to Dr. Gilbertson:

“Most patients come to see a surgeon because they need surgery. There is often anxiety and fear of the unknown. They are sometimes in pain or discomfort and often ashamed or embarrassed by the problem for which they are presenting.  I find joy in helping them find that their surgical experience can be much more pleasant and ‘healing’ than they expected. Seeing people leave happier and healthier than how they came in — that is a joy.”

Given that Dr. Gilbertson was born in The Richland Hospital and grew up in the area, coming to The Richland Hospital and Clinics is like coming home. She is looking forward to the land, the people, and some extended family as well.

In her free time, Dr. Gilbertson enjoys being in the great outdoors with her two dogs, making music, writing poetry, gardening, raising monarch butterflies, and ballroom dancing.
