PERSONAL ITEMS

The Hospital cannot be responsible for the loss of money, jewels or other valuables kept in your room.  Upon admission you will be given a choice of sending your valuables home with a relative or friend or placing them in the business office safe.  You will receive a receipt for your valuables.  The receipt must be presented each time a withdrawal of valuables is made or when all valuables are withdrawn.  This is for your protection.  You may pick up your personal items from the cashier upon discharge or request that someone else pick them up for you.

SAFETY

Hospital personnel are well trained to meet emergencies, including fires, tornados, and handling of hazardous substance.  Safety inspections and fire drills are held routinely and there are ongoing safety education programs and monitoring of disaster plans.  All electrical appliances brought to the Hospital by patients for use during their stay must be inspected for safety prior to use.  Ask your nurse for information regarding this.  In addition, The Richland Hospital also participates in a number of state and national patient safety initiatives such as fall prevention, assuring that surgical sites are consistently marked correctly, and reducing the use of abbreviations.

SMOKING

The Richland Hospital, Inc. has implemented a smoking policy developed and approved with the best interest of patients in mind.  The basic rationale is to provide a safe, clean and healthy environment for patients, employees and visitors.  As part of the policy, all individuals shall be prohibited from smoking and/or using tobacco products within any and all buildings owned or occupied by the Hospital.  Smoking by employees, patients, and visitors will be totally restricted to inside a smoking shelter placed in the parking area on the east side of the Hospital’s main entrance.

VISITING HOURS

Visitors are welcome at The Richland Hospital.  We realize that family and friends contribute to a patient’s recovery.  Different restrictions may apply depending on the unit where the patient is hospitalized.  Normal visiting hours are from Noon to 8:00pm .  After 8pm , all visitors must register at the information desk in the lobby and wear an identification badge.  All visitors should be free of infections and contagious diseases.  Shoes and shirts are required to be worn by visitors at all times.
