Healthcare providers at Spring Green Medical Center include: Family Practice providers - Dr. Kay Balink; Dr. Thomas Richardson; Steven Wolk, P.A.; Charlene Puskala, P.T.; Podiatrist, Dr. Steven Merckx and his assistant Sue Davis. Ashley Willis, CMA and Tonya Kadousek, Lab and Medical Imaging Technician, along with Sandy Bindl, Betty Headings, and Geri Doerre all pull together to put their patients first.
Dr. Balink is the clinic’s lead physician at Spring Green Medical Center. Originally from Denver, CO, Dr. Balink found her way to the Midwest after she completed her undergraduate work at Grinnell College. She attended St. George’s University School of Medicine in Grenada, West Indies. Then, she spent one year in the National Health Service in Bath, England. Finally Dr. Balink landed in Madison, WI to do a Family Practice Residency in the late 1980’s. During that time, a rural rotation was a requirement of all residents. She spent two months at Richland Medical Center and Richland Hospital.
“I thoroughly enjoyed the physicians, nursing staff, people in general and locale which prompted me to take the position at Spring Green Medical Center in 1989 and I’ve never left,” Dr. Balink said. “Rural medicine gives me the opportunity to do all aspects of medical care from prenatal to geriatric. It is the ultimate well-rounded experience and adds balance to my medical practice as well as life in general,” she added.
“It is always a privilege to receive the responsibility of care for patients because of the trust in our skills that implies. I have worked with Sandy since day one and we are a finely tuned team,” Dr. Balink said.
Sandra Kay Bindl has been a Medical Assistant at Spring Green since 1987. Before that, she worked at Odana Medical Center in Madison, but wanted to find work closer to home. She has always lived in the Spring Green area and describes Spring Green Medical Center as a “GREAT place to work!”
“We are always there for our patients in the good times as well as the bad times,” Bindl said. “We work together as a team and we treat everyone as family.”
Geri Doerre is the office manager at SGMC and has the first and final contact with patients. “I have many wonderful memories of the generation of families we’ve seen. It has been a joy to see children as they grow up and start their own families. Spring Green Medical Center is truly a family practice,” Doerre said.
What keeps patients keeps patients coming back to Spring Green Medical Center over the years? Doerre believes that it is a combination of the comfort level created by the staffs’ longevity and their dedication to patients. “Staff members truly love working with the patients,” she said. “They love the challenge of each day and they love their role in making a difference in someone’s life.”
That sentiment was echoed by Betty Headings the Laboratory and X Ray Technician at the clinic. “You get to know the people with a small clinic,” she said. “We all try to work together and help each other to treat our patients with respect and concern.”
