Admissions / Registration

We attempt to make the admissions process as quick and easy as possible. If you are being admitted by prior arrangement at the request of your physician, you may receive a phone call at home to obtain the necessary information. At the time of admission, all that is required is for you to review the information and sign the necessary papers. Patients frequently remark that their signatures seem to be required many times; actually, each document you sign is required for medical, legal, or financial purposes. Some of the information you supply is required by law and is held in strict confidence.

Except in an emergency, you will be registered by an admitting clerk and then taken to your room. There nursing personnel will ask for additional medical information essential to provide you with individual care. Room preferences will be accommodated whenever possible, however, your medical condition and diagnosis will be the primary factors determining the room you are assigned. As a patient, you will wear an identification bracelet with your name, physician’s name and identification number. This bracelet assists in ensuring accurate patient identification.

Hospital Foundation

The Richland Hospital Foundation was organized in 1986 through the generous contributions of our friends and neighbors. In the past, gifts made through the foundation have been used to help fund Rural Health Programs, equipment needs, Hospital renovation, and special services. Individuals interested in obtaining information regarding tax-deductible gifts to the Richland Hospital Foundation should contact the Foundation Director at 647-6321.

Medications From Home

Patients wishing to use their own medications may do so upon written order of their physician. No other medication may be used by the patient in the Hospital except those ordered by the physicians. All medication brought by the patient to the Hospital; will be sent to the pharmacy for identification, storage, and safekeeping. They will be returned to you when you are discharged. Your physician may advice that some medications be discarded if they are no longer appropriate for you.

 Insurance / Billing Assistance

As a routine service, The Richland Hospital will bill Medicare and other insurance directly for our patients. Except for specific emergency room physician services, your physician service fees are billed separately by your physician’s office.  A radiologist billing service bills fees for radiologist interpretation of x-rays separately. Please make sure that we have correct insurance numbers on file, along with your signed authorization to release the information necessary for payment of your bill. You should familiarize yourself with the terms of your insurance coverage. This will help you understand the billing charges and procedures as well as any prior authorization requirement. At the time of admission, a copy of both sides of your insurance cards will be made for our records.

If the insurance company has not paid the claim within 45 days from the date of discharge, a statement will be mailed to the responsible party asking that the insurance company be contacted – unless coverage is with Medicare or another governmental agency. Self-pay accounts or any balance remaining after insurance payments are due upon notification. Thereafter, statements showing the status of your account are mailed monthly. Accounts in this category left unpaid for a period of 90 days will be turned over to a collection agency.

If you have questions about your insurance or about your hospital bill, we urge you to contact our insurance office staff between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. If you have no insurance, a representative from Patient Accounts will discuss financial arrangements with you prior to discharge from the hospital.
